The freedom came with a sacrifice and partition of India into Dominions of India and Pakistan which caused lots of loss to the human race. Nearly 15 million people lost their lives following the violent riots and mass causalities.

On this auspicious day of freedom, 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru became the first ever Prime Minister of India and hosted the prestigious ceremony by hoisting the Indian National Flag over the top of Red Fort, Delhi. Since then, this flag hosting ceremony is carried forward in the similar fashion by the respected PMs after Nehru; and this year Narendra Modi (current PM) will host the event.
