What Happened On May 25, 2020?
The patrolling vehicles in Hennepin County received a call from a shop owner for possible theft of ‘$20 counterfeit bill’. At 8:08 PM, MPD officers Thomas Lane and J.A. Keung reached the location and interrogated the shop owner about the whereabouts of the man who passed the fake bill.
Upon inspection, they found out that the man was parked outside in a car around the corner. Lane & Keung approached the man sitting behind the wheels, George Floyd, and asked him to surrender.
The two officers dragged Floyd out of the car towards the sidewalk and Lane handcuffed him. Later at 8:19 PM, Derek Chauvin and Tao Thou arrived at the scene. Derek knelt on Floyd’s neck for straight 8 minutes 46 seconds until he stopped breathing. Hennepin County Medical Examiner (ME) pronounced him dead, citing ‘suffocation’ as the reason for death.

Chauvin and other officers chased down another victim Leroy Martinez, 23, in a public housing complex in South Minneapolis. Who Are Other Police Officers Involved in George Floyd’s Death? Latest News
There are a total of four ex-Minneapolis Minnesota police officers involved in the murder case of George Floyd. Besides Floyd, the names of the other three officers are Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J Alexander Kueng. All are facing criminal charges, and are in custody with bail set at $1 million (Hennepin County Jail Records), as of May 3, 2020, Wednesday.
The three are facing aiding and abetting second-degree unintentional murder as well as aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter. According to WCCO, Lane turned himself in. Rest will make their first appearance on Thursday at 12:45 pm local time. Moreover, Derek’s murder charge has been upgraded to second-degree unintentional murder.
As per the official statement of Kueng’s attorney, the former officer turned himself in at about 1:35 pm local time.
