Jim Park’s Personal Life
Jim was born in Haywards Heath on October 21, 1931, and attended Hove County Grammar School for Boys. His family was into cricket. His father, Jim Sr, was a prolific all-rounder for Sussex. He played once for England in 1937. Not only his father but also his uncle, Harry, played 400 games for Sussex.
Jim married Jenny and was with her until his last breath. Together they had one child Bobby. Bobby played country cricket for both Hampshire and Kent.

Jim Park’s Career
Jim Parks made his debut for Sussex in 1949. His debut was spectacular, he was an attacking batsman, athletic fieldsman, and a spin bowler. At the age of 22, Parks was picked for a Test Match against Pakistan as a batsman. Here he made a little impact but it was not until 1960 that he scored an unbeaten century. From here he remained England’s first-choice wicket-keeper through the mid-1960s.
Parks was known as a gifted batsman and the most effective wicket-keeper of his time. He became a captain for Sussex from 1967 to 1968. After the 1972 season, he left Sussex and signed a three-year contract with Somerset.
From 1980 to 1992 he made 700 wicket-keeping dismissals for the club and set a record in the club. In 1993, he played briefly for Kent making one first-class and one List A match at Maidstone.
Parks retired from first-class cricket in 1976. He played around 739 first-class matches and scored 36,673 runs. He had 51 hundred and 213 fifties. He took 1,087 catches and made 92 stumpings. He also took 51 wickets, with a personal best of 3 for 23.
After entirely retiring from cricket, Parks worked at Whitbread. He later went back to Sussex and became its marketing manager. Later on, he became the club captain, serving two terms in 2013. He also became the manager of the Old England cricket team for several years. In August 2021, Parks became the oldest male cricketer in England.
