Happy Ram Navami 2016: Muhurat, Puja Timings – What are the rituals?


Happy Ram Navami 2016: This is the day of the birth of Lord Rama to King Dashrath and Queen Kausalya as the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu on earth as a human. It is also spelled as Rama Nawami. It falls on the 9th day of the month of Chaitra as per the Hindu calendar. This festival is one of the most important ones for Hindus.

In some of the places of India, the festival lasts long for nine days and this period of 9 days are also known as Sri Rama Navaratra. The festival is just the end of the Navaratri. The devotees practice some puja rituals on this auspicious day dedicated to Lord Rama. They also organise Maha Puja, early morning Aartis and several bhajan programs.

The mid point of the day is the time at which is the birth time. As of now, the western clock and  Gregorian calendar has replaced the old  things. Most of the people assumes 12 noon to be the time of Madhyahna which would be correct only if the sunrise and sunset occurs at 6 am and 6 pm respectively. But the sunrise and sunset time are different. The  time for the celebration of birthday falls between 11 am and 1 pm in most of the parts of  India.
