The masses anticipate the sequel of 2019 released ‘Joker’ starring Joaquin Phoenix since its success. The violence embracing pop-culture movie had garnered a lot of support and recognition globally after doing a slow business in the beginning. Now the question arises of a second chapter and some unanswered doubts in the Joker and DC world.
In 1981 Gotham city, resides a party-clown and aspiring stand-up comedian named Arthur Fleck with his mother, Penny. The movie recounts the journey of how Arthur becomes a villain who divides the city into half and creates riots throughout the city.
In the end, Arthur confesses of all the crimes he committed on Murray Franklin’s show and even shot him in the head when he criticizes Joker. After all the insanity he causes, he is seen in Arkham State Hospital where he might have murdered his psychiatrist as well.
Is Joker 2 Confirmed?
If we’re to guess about the sequel, I’d say yes, we’re getting a second movie. However, if the question of a second movie would have surfaced a couple of months ago, then we might have kept mum.
This is because the writer and director, Todd Phillips, said “we have no plan for a sequel,” and how they always visioned it as just one movie. So as much we’ve been hinted and given out all sorts of clues, we firmly believe watching Arthur Fleck once again behind the big curtain.
Will Joaquin Phoenix return as the Joker?
Phoenix is known for not returning to sequels in history, but with such a successful movie that led him to be nominated for Oscars and winning at the same time, he might make an exception.
As for Warner Bros. (WB), the film did wonders at the box office with a business of $1 billion worldwide. They would want to make another movie to treat the fans, and who knows if they break yet another record with the sequel. What will be the Joker 2 Plot?
After the riots broke throughout the Gotham City, Arthur was (seemingly) arrested and put into Arkham State Hospital where he takes therapy. Nevertheless, that ends soon, and he is dancing along in the corridor with bloody footprints in the trail. Now, that forces us to believe that he has probably killed the doctor too.
Coming to the potential plot, we do not know the timeline of the movie taking place in; it might remain in the same year or make a significant long jump into the future. If we’re talking about the future, we might also address the fact that Gotham is on its way to become a crime capital that cannot be put under control without Batman’s help.
Sadly, Batman hadn’t realized his identity and potential. It is also plausible for Joker to break loose from the hospital with the help of an inmate (who could be a new character from the comics) and to take over his newly established army. It could be thrilling to watch!
Will Joker 2 be a Direct Sequel or an Anthology?
With bare details at hand, it isn’t easy to interpret what kind the movie will be. It could be either an anthology or a true sequel. An anthology would require a completely new story and character, whereas the continuation will resume Arthur’s story furthermore where he’d be seen committing more crimes and exploring his wicked self.
Both options will contain similar risks, albeit, a sequel would mean the audience will be better adaptive in accepting the movie since they want to see what Arthur carves his future as. But let’s not move to conclusions just yet, we’re still not sure of anything. Who is in the Joker 2 cast?
Most of us expect Joaquin Phoenix to return as the infamous Joker which is not yet certified. Sophie Dumond played by Zazie Beetz might return since we were affirmed that she didn’t die. Then we have Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy who played Murray and Penny but were murdered in cold blood by Arthur. Therefore, they won’t return, and it’s firm.
Joker 2 is expected to release in October 2021.
