Who Are The Players To Watch in Australian Cricket?

Australia is a nation that takes cricket seriously and this trend doesn’t look set to change anytime soon. As a country, they have generated some world-famous players and been part of some breath-taking games and no doubt they’ll be looking to do the same this year. So, which players should we be looking out for in 2021?

Callum Ferguson

South Australia based player Callum Ferguson may have recently retired from BBL cricket but he’s still a lead player in the Marsh Cup. Playing for the Redbacks he is has achieved the most runs in the past 4 tournaments and so is undoubtedly a player to watch. Since 2016 there isn’t a single player that has scored more centuries (six) or more runs (1394) than Ferguson, proving he is a cricketing force to be reckoned with. Having recently been let go from the Sydney Thunder cricket team he’ll be motivated by having something to prove so 2012 is definitely going to be a strong season for him.

Sam Heazlett

With great averages across both the T20s (17.72) and first-class cricket (30.53), Heazlett is most definitely a player to pay attention to. On top of that, the player (who plays left-handed) averages 54.05 in one day – a record that is often overlooked. He’s taken part in 20 one-day matches and has a strike rate of 105, which goes to show that not only does he do well at scoring runs but he does it really quickly too. The Bulls will be looking to return to the finals again this season and Heazlett will no doubt play a big part in whether that happens or not.

Peter Handscomb

Over the past three seasons of the Marsh Cup Peter Handscomb has been the best with the bat, averaging 47.56. Playing for Victoria, he was a massive part in some of their big previous and as such was named Player of the Match at their 2018-2019 title win. Known for his long hair as well as his magnificent cricket skills there will be plenty of people watching out for Handscomb this year and seeing what he brings to the cricket pitch.

Steve Smith

In October 2019, Smith scored his last 50-over game for New South Wales but he’s done loads since then. He is currently the Australian ODI Player of the Year! This could be down to his 62-ball centuries at the SCH against Indian, but then he’s also done well at various other matches. His start to cricket this year has been phenomenal and although it is currently unannounced as to how many Marsh Cup games he will participate in, then will be plenty of cricket fans and rival players waiting to see just how involved he will get in this year’s cricket – he’s most definitely one to watch!

Watching Australian Cricket

There are so many very talented Australian cricket players it is impossible to list them all. With Big Bash Live happening many people will be wanting to know what is happening and wanting up to date scores.
