In 2019 when Aladdin came back on screens as a live-action movie, many were worried that it wouldn’t be as good as the original movie. Luckily, it did well with the viewers, and it quickly became a hit. The movie wasn’t a carbon copy of the original 1992 movie, but its core remained the same.

The movie earned around $91 Million on the opening weekend. With such success, it was expected that there would be a sequel. Fortunately, it has been confirmed that Aladdin is coming with a sequel. It is set to be directed by Guy Ritchie.

The screenplay is written by John Gatins, an Oscar-nominated screenwriter known for Flight, and Andrea Berloff is also an Oscar-nominated screenwriter known for Straight Outta Compton. Let’s find out everything we know so far about Aladdin’s sequel film.

Who is in the Aladdin 2 cast?

So far, no confirmations of the cast have been made. We expect to see the main cast return for the sequel, like Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Will Smith as Genie, and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine. Most of the details are still under wraps, and nothing has been confirmed so far.

Since it has been hinted that the movie is not going to be a remake of The Return of Jafar, there is a possibility that we may not see Kenzari. Guess we will only know more when an announcement on the cast is made.

What will be the plot of Aladdin 2 film?

Since the movie is still in its early stages, no word has been out related to the plot. In the first installment, the story was highly based on the 1992’s animated movie. They only brought a few changes in the plot and stuck with the main core. It has been speculated that the sequel was going to be based on The Return of Jafar.

However, this has been ruled out. It has also been mentioned that they are planning to take a new route for the film. It may probably be for the best to create some new stories and play around ideas. However, this may come as unfortunate news for the fans who were hoping to see the remake of The Return of Jafar in a live-action movie.

They may make pick up some elements from The Return of Jafar and King of ThievesLet us know what you think can happen in the sequel? (check: Tin Star Season 3 Release Date, Cast, Trailer, Episodes: Is this series the last installment on Sky Atlantic?.)

When will Aladdin 2 release? Premiere Date

In February 2020, it was announced that Aladdin is coming back with a sequel. A release date wasn’t mentioned, but it was hinted that the work on its script had begun. Since the movie is still in its early stages, it is safe to assume that it won’t be coming anytime soon.

There are many current in-development projects without confirmed release dates. The list includes The Little Mermaid and The Hunchback of Notre Dame along with Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book. (check: CBS’s Hannibal Season 4 Release Date, Cast, Trailer: Will There Be Another Series?.)

If we take a guess, the chances are that it will happen between 2023 to 2026. There are still chances that we may get to see it sooner. But with the pattern Disney has with its sequel films, there might be a long wait. We are hoping to get some news or possibly a hint on what to expect in the D23 event this year.

Is there a trailer of Aladdin 2 movie?

The movie is still under progress, and the trailer has not been released. However, we may get to see some sneak peek once the shooting begins. Meanwhile, you can catch up on the trailer for the first installment of the movie below.
