Philonise Floyd, younger brother of George Floyd, testified before House Judiciary Committee, Washington on June 10, 2020. He asked the lawmakers to correct the judiciary system as hundreds of African-Americans are dying at the hands of police.

George Floyd died on 25th May 2020, on Memorial Day, by the fault of Derek Chauvin, ex-Minneapolis Police Officer, who knelt on George’s neck till he stopped breathing.

Philonise said that the murdering of his older brother has been a “personal” and “premeditated” matter, he expressed strong possibilities that George and Derek knew each other for a long time.

Floyd asked the US congress to stop the police cruelty on African-Americans and somehow find a way to “stop the pain”. He asked the official to make sure no event repeats itself in the coming future.

The brother said, “Nobody deserves to die for a $20 bill”.

“The world knows him as George, but I called him Perry,” he told the government.

“Yesterday, we laid him to rest. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.”

“I’m the oldest now. So it was my job to comfort our brothers and sisters, Perry’s kids, and everyone who loved him.

“He called them ‘sir,'” who took his life after suffocating him for nearly 9 minutes.

He screamed in pain and told the officers “I can’t breathe… I can’t breathe” but the policemen did not listen.

At the end of his testimony, Philonise remembered his brother and said “Your death won’t be in vain, the world is changing.”
