This show of BBC has been tasting success with its every season so far. So, the fans of Sherlock Holmes have been eagerly waiting for a new installment to arrive. The forthcoming installment would be coming to both Netflix and BBC. There is still hope. Let’s catch up more on the series.
When will Sherlock season 5 release (date)?
As of May 2020, we don’t the exact release date as there has been no official word regarding the same. However, it’s being expected that it should premiere in either 2022 or 2023. As soon as we receive any official update, we will update it here.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are the lead stars and were last seen in season 4 which ended in 2017. For a more clear schedule, we need to a bit more. Then, we will get to know exactly when would the filming begin. But, you should keep in mind that the new series will premiere in the next few years.
As per co-showrunner Steven Moffat, he hasn’t still thought about it as the other co-showrunner Mark Gatiss has also been doing other stuff as well. That’s the reason why the series is being delayed more and more. Whenever they get time to sit together, they would get to discuss when to do the next series.
Sherlock Season 5 Cast: Who will return and leave?
Well, the show can’t be complete with its main lead stars Cumberbatch and Freeman. They will return for sure as Sherlock and Watson respectively. In season 4, we get to meet Sherlock’s sister Eurus Holmes played by Sian Brooke. He himself didn’t remember if she existed in reality.
Brooke is excited to return and play Eurus. She said that she would love to revisit as actors don’t get to play such characters every day. Brooke added that she is abnormal and still have interesting things like she doesn’t respond or behave the way others do. There is definitely more to that character.

What will happen in Sherlock season 5? Plot:
As per the expectations, the new season of Sherlock should pick up where it left off. Eurus Holmes was sent back securely to her secure unit. In the s4 finale, we got to know that she is an expert manipulator who enjoys taunting her detective brother.
Moreover, Sherlock got to discover how Eurus killed his childhood best friend ‘Redbeard’ as a child. All those years, he remembered the story very differently. Sherlock and Watson were still the companions by the end of season 4. So, we hope to see more of their own stories in the future.
Is there a Sherlock season 5 trailer?
It is unfortunate, but we don’t have any promo video for the new season to come. It’s because it’s hasn’t been released officially. As soon as it arrives, we will put it here. As the show release history says, trailers come only a couple of months before the actual release of the season. So, we have a lot of time to wait until it is dropped officially.

In January 2014, Moffat had confirmed the arrival of Sherlock season 5. That time, even the fourth one wasn’t released. So, we can be sure of the fact that it will arrive, but don’t know when exactly.
Cumberbatch and Moffat are excited to continue the series but haven’t put plans in place yet. There is one more reason for it. It is that both Cumberbatch and Freeman have been busy with other series. Cumberbatch appeared in Dr. Strange to play the lead character while Freeman is busy with a new series – Breeders.
