At the age of 19, Candace submitted her first story to Simon & Schuster but it never got published. For years she worked as a freelance writer for various publications. It was in 1993 when she started writing for The New York Observer that she gained attention. She wrote a column called Sex and the City. It was based on her personal dating experiences and her friends. Soon these articles were published in an anthology which was also called Sex and the City. After gaining all the attention, the HBO picked up the anthology and made its show with the same name.
