Who is Dr. David Spiegel?
Dr David R Spiegel is a well-known psychiatrist in Virginia. He has been at Stanford University School of Medicine since 1975 as the Jack, Lulu, and Sam Willison Professor of Medicine and Associate Chairman of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He is also a member of the academic facility of Stanford University School of Medicine.
He graduated from Harvard University before he went to Stanford. He has researched around 280 papers and chapters in scientific journals and books. He has written various articles on anxiety, psychological ailments like schizophrenia, peripartum obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosis, paramnesia, and patients who have suffered sexual or child abuse.
He is the medical director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at Stanford Medical Center. He is also a well-established psychologist who has helped many patients deal with cancer. What did Dr David Spiegel say about Johnny Depp in the trial? Testimony
David Spiegel, on the stand, mentioned a list of medicines that were given to Depp along with some illegal medicines that he claims Depp was taking. Dr. Spiegel went on to say that those who have substance misuse disorders take lawfully prescribed medications that help them in sleeping. He mentioned that Depp was given Seroquel to help him sleep and Adderall, which helped him stay alert.
The doctor claimed that Depp had difficulties in remembering his lines onset, and it was unusual for someone his age. He claimed that Depp’s psychiatrist asked Depp to remember a few words for 5 minutes, but he couldn’t. His memory and thinking ability was getting affected due to substance abuse. He also stated that Depp had acknowledged that the drugs and alcohol were the root cause of all his problems. Dr Spiegel said that when one consumes alcohol and narcotics, which shouldn’t be combined, they become irritated, agitated, suspicious, jealous, and psychotic, leading to IPV (Intimate Partner Violence).
During the entire testimony, he referred to Depp’s behavior in his relationship with Heard as influenced by substance abuse. He mentioned that his behavior pattern was consistent with someone who has a substance use disorder and someone who is the perpetrator of intimate partner violence.
Although David hasn’t yet spoken to Johnny personally, he stated that he had requested an interview, but it was denied. He was making a statement based on what he had heard and seen from a distance.
