Doctor Who has been one of the most loved shows that have ever come on screen. It came out initially to educate kids and later brought some fantastic Sci-Fi elements. The show revolves around a time-traveling alien (or Time Lord in other words) who comes from a planet known as Gallifrey. It soon brought some monsters into the show.
Season twelve changed most of the things we believed in, from the origin of the Doctor to wondering what exactly was going to happen next.
Chibnall confirms that the show is going to return for season 13. With the ending, we sure are wondering if Doctor will be able to save herself from the Judoon? How does knowing the truth about her origin plays a role in the next season? Let’s find out what we know so far.
Doctor Who Season 13 Cast: Who is in it?
Like many other actors who have stuck with the series for three seasons, Jodie Whittaker will be doing the same and reprise her role. It is still unclear if we will see Bradley Walsh as Graham and Tosin Cole as Ryan.
Speculations say that the duo may leave the show after the festive episode. Mandip Gill has also shown interest in reprising her role. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. Let us know who you think might return for another season.
In the meantime, Sacha Dhawan may return as the Doctor’s nemesis The Master. The fans would love to have him back. In the series 12 finale, it looked like he escaped another certain death.
A new character will join the show – the show’s first-ever transgender companion – Tania Bell. Rebecca Root will play the character. She said that her character’s gender identity won’t any influence on her behavior in the story.
Will John Barrowman return to Doctor Who?
The return of John Barrowman Captain Jack Harkness was one of the fan-favorite surprises in series 12. It will be interesting to see if he would return once again or not. However, Chibnail had said, before series 12, that he won’t return this time. But, Jack did return.
Will he return in the Doctor Who festive special? Earlier, in 2018 too, the screenwriter had said that the TARDIS team of Whittaker won’t encounter any classic monsters in series 11. Later on, a Dalek appeared in the 2019 New Year’s special episode. Chibnail said that he hadn’t technically lied as the special wasn’t a part of the 11th series.
It seems that he is trying to confuse fans with the same tricks again. So, we may expect a visit from Captain Jack again. What do you think?
What will happen in Doctor Who season 13? Plot
The 12th season has left us all with a lot of questions. The Doctor realized that everything she knew was just not true. However, towards the end, she was teleported by Judoon, who is a space police Rhino-form alien species.
Although the writing of the show is still ongoing, no comments have been made on the plot. The next season may likely bring some new arcs like The Timeless Child and The Lone Cyberman. The reveal in season twelve’s finale has set up many things that can potentially be explored in the coming installment.
There is also a festive episode coming in December titled “Revolution of Daleks”. In it, the Doctor will likely be facing the Daleks, and probably she will be fighting to escape from Judoon.

When will Doctor Who season 13 release? Premiere Date
As of now, the release date of the show has not been revealed. Considering the usual release pattern of different seasons, the thirteenth installment would have come out in early-2021. However, due to the pandemic, the BBC had to shut all of its productions, and it is unclear if the show will follow the same release schedule.
However, we do have a special festive episode coming soon, which may be released on New Year 2021. Mandip Gill mentioned that the filming of the special episode had ended right before BBC shut the productions. So, this time, there won’t be any Christmas special episode as it used to happen in the past.
The showrunner has also revealed that they are continuing to work remotely. The writing is still under process for season thirteen. Since the filming for the festive episode is finished, the post-production work will continue.
