DC has managed to surprise us with various movies over the years. Suicide Squad was no exception. It brought the most wanted criminals together in the movie to save the world. Although the film received a mixed response, it still managed to gain a whopping amount of $750 million worldwide.
At the time, it was unclear whether there was going to be a sequel for the movie or not. However, it was later announced that they were coming with a sequel. Although the film had gone through a lot of criticism, they made some changes, and it looks like it is going to be very different than the first installment.
Who is in the cast of Suicide Squad 2?
In September 2019, Gunn who has directed the film released the names of the actors starring in the second installment. It is confirmed that we will see Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
Will Smith won’t be returning for this film as he had some trouble with the schedule. There were speculations that Idris Elba was going to replace him, but it has been reported that he will be playing a new role.
Some other new cast member will be joining this film too like
- Peter Capaldi,
- Michael Rooker,
- Storm Reid,
- David Datsmalchian,
- John Cena,
- Alice Braga,
- Nathan Fillion,
- Taika Waititi,
- Jennifer Holland,
- Julio Ruiz,
- Tinahe Kajese,
- Sean Gunn,
- Juan Diego Botto,
- Mayling Ng,
- Joaquin Cosio,
- Flula Borg,
- Pete Davidson,
- Steve Agee, and
- Daniela Melchior.
While none of them has mentioned anything about the roles, they are playing. There have been speculations that David Dastmalchian would be seen as Batman baddie Polka-Dot Man and Daniela Melchior will be seen as Ratcatcher. However, we will only know when an official announcement for the same is made.

Hanging out with part of #TheSuicideSquad team this weekend. What a great group of people!
Suicide Squad 2 Plot: What will happen?
Peter Safran has mentioned that this movie is going to be a complete reboot. So it is hard to predict what will happen next, but it looks like there may be multiple squads just like Deadpool. Possibly most of them will be killed off in this movie. Although this is just a theory and nothing has been confirmed. Gunn has been silent about this throughout and hasn’t let any word slip out.
It was also reported that this movie is inspired by Jon Ostrander and Kim Yale’s 1980’s comic run. Joel Kinnaman also hinted that this movie would be funny. Since the first movie couldn’t do as well as it was expected to, the script this time has been written by Gunn, it won’t be a surprise if we see funny and witty characters.
When will Suicide Squad 2 release? Premiere Date
In 2019, it was announced by Warner Bros that the movie is going to be released on August 6, 2021. Soon after the announcement, the movie started filming. Luckily enough, the shoot concluded in February 2020, which meant that the production wasn’t affected by the Covid-19 situation. Now that the film is in its post-production, hopefully, there won’t be delays in the release.
Although the wait is still long, we do have some exciting news for the fans. DC is going to conduct a virtual FanDome event where the director and cast of the movie will be present. It is going to take place on August 22, 2020, which is almost a month away (as of writing this), so buckle up we may get to see some sneak peeks soon.
It is modeled after the San Diego Comic-Con event which is also happening online due to the pandemic. This event is going to be packed with all the updates of their upcoming movies. (check: Hocus Pocus 2.)
Let’s see what rating does this sequel gets. The first film got a tame PG-13 rating. However, Gunn hasn’t revealed anything yet. (Check: BBC’s Doctor Who Season 13 Release Date, Cast, Plot & Trailer: Will There Be Another Series?.)
