Evan Peters will now be more beware of hitting the share buttons. On Tuesday, he has issued an apology for accidentally retweeting a video that favored violence against looters. Later on, he tweeted the following:
“I don’t condone the guy watching the news at all in the video which I have deleted. I unknowingly retweeted it. I’m deeply upset it got on my newsfeed. I sincerely apologize if anyone was offended. I support black lives matter wholeheartedly.”
Initially, the tweets which 33-year-old Peters shared from a user with the Twitter handle @RimHammer. He/she posted the video tweeting, “I can watch these pieces of shit looters get tackled all day!!” The video featured people chasing looters.
Just after deleting the tweet, Peters also shared a picture of black square on his official handle. The X-Men star tried to show solidarity with it. He captioned it with hashtag #BlackOutTuesday movement.

However, numerous people and his fans were upset with his first tweet. One of the person tweeted, “I honest to God hope u are hacked. Bc how are you going to retweet that video, undo your retweet, and then post this (TWICE)? Say it with me… PERFORMATIVE ACTIVISM.”
Another Twitter user tweeted, “Evan, If you support #BlackLivesMatter wholeheartedly please share resources and information to your followers, the black box does nothing to help us. If you need links to share we have plenty.”
Ultimately, with his latest tweet, Peters seems to be finding an easy way out rather than having the difficult conversation involving racial discrimination and the consequences of sharing such videos on the big social platform and that too in such a nationwide crisis.
Recently, Peters was in a relationship with singer Halsey, however, they seemed to have broken up. Halsey has been keenly supporting the protestors in Los Angeles. She has also provided medical support to those shot by rubber bullets.
