Rohit Sharma Gains Number 5 Spot in ODI Ranking: Indian batting star, Rohit Sharma has jumped eight positions and reached career-best 5th spot in the latest released ICC batsman rankings. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia and he ended up scoring 441 runs in 5 matches with 2 centuries and a score of 99 in the final match at SCG. However India lost the series by a big margin of 1-4, but the top 3 batsmen made the most out of the series.

The latest ICC batsman rankings for ODI were released on Sunday and there were 3 Indian players in the top 10, which includes vice-captain Virat Kohli who is at 2nd position, Rohit Sharma is at 5 and Shikhar Dhawan is at 7th position.

Captain MS Dhoni, who was unable to click with the bat in the whole series faced a bag downfall in his rankings and slipped down to 7 positions and was placed at 13th position. This is the first time in this decade that MS Dhoni is not in top 10 rankings in ODI.

The Mumbai batsmen, Rohit completed his 5000 runs in ODI cricket in the final odi itself and continued his good form against the mighty Australians. He has scored 5 centuries against the Australians out of his total 10.He saw an increment of 59 points for his spectacular performance throughout the series and he is trailed by only 64 points from his team-mate Virat Kohli’s points, who stood at 2nd spot with 825 points.
The tally is lead by South African skipper AB De Villiers who is at number 1 spot with 900 points and the difference between 1st and 2nd ranked batsmen is 75.

Sharma has been a very consistent Indian player in the limited-overs format. However, he has failed to prove his worth in the test matches, which raises questions on his capabilities over and over again. He has been the most reliable player for Indian side in ODI and T20 format since 2015.
