After two unsuccessful productions “Roy” and “Bombay Velvet” starring Ranbir Kapoor of 2015. The promotion and hype of the movie had been done on a large scale with grabbed the attention lots of audiences. Ranbir’s previous movie was released on 3000 which was more than “Tamasha” which was out on 2100 screens across India.
The pre-release promotions done by the filmmakers made the movie to had a good amount of advance in top metro cities and big centers of the country. Sajid Nadiadwala’s production on Friday had average occupancy for the morning shows. After that, the positive words of mouth made the occupancy increase for further shows of the Sunday.
“Tamasha” collected Rs. 38.23 Cr as the opening weekend business as confirmed by the tweet of trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, “#Tamasha has a strong weekend. Fri 10.94 cr, Sat 13.17 cr, Sun 14.12 cr. Total: ₹ 38.23 cr. India biz.” With this, the movie is able to break the record of “Besharam” which had the business of Rs. 34.37 Cr in 3 days of release.

The flick failed to break the opening day records created by Ranbir Kapoor’s “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani” and “Besharam”. Till the end of the first day, Deepika Padukone starrer movie garnered mixed feedback from the audiences but the majority was in favor of Imtiaz Ali-directed flick which being the main reason to attract more viewers for Saturday.
When compared with the productions of Ranbir Kapoor, “Tamasha” listed in the second highest grosser of all time after “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani”.
