The Keystone XL Pipeline Is Dead: Barack Obama

After so many years, now it is confirmed that the Keystone XL pipeline is dead.

On Friday, in the white house, the President Barack Obama announced at the Roosevelt Romm that Secretary of State, John Kerry had recommended the project to be rejected. This project is emerging out to be political barrier over climate change. The climate change activists fought many years to stop the construction of the pipeline. Appearing with Kerry and Vice President Joe Biden, Obama said, “This morning, Secretary Kerry informed me that, after extensive public outreach and consultation with other cabinet agencies, the State Department has decided that the Keystone XL pipeline would not serve the national interests of the United States, I agree with that decision.”

Obama said the main behind the rejection of the project was the almost no effect on the economy and energy technological improvements. He further added the environmental concerns and climate change negotiations for the reason of the rejections.

Obama said, “The old rules said we couldn’t promote economic growth and transition to clean energy without squeezing businesses, But this is America, and we have come up with new ways and new technologies to break down the old rules.”

The project first proposed by a Canadian company, TransCanada, to connect the oil sands fields in Canada with the Gulf Coast which would carry 80,000 barrels of oil per day almost 1,200 miles.

The approval for the project has been in the queue for many years, as it needs review process to be done by State Department.
