Homeland Season 9: Here is an update to the longest running series of Showtime, Homeland. It has aired 8 seasons till now. The show is centered around Carrie Mathison, a CIA operations officer suffering from bi-polar disorder. She pursue a celebrated US Marine suspecting him of working with terrorists. Mathison starts her mission under the guidance of her mentor Saul Berenson, the CIA Division Chief. The show is an adaption of the Israeli TV series titled Prisoners of War by Gideon Raff. The spy series first aired on October 2, 2011. With the first season, Homeland got universal acclaim for its amazing narrative, performances from the cast, and a responsible depiction of the Global War on Terrorism.
With its quality production, it received a Peabody Award, multiple Emmy awards, and Golden Globe awards, among others. It has managed to air eight successful seasons. Still, it has been the highest-rated and most-watched show in the history of Showtime.
Back in 2012, Damian Lewis (Nick Brody) revealed that former US President Barack Obama accepted that he loves to watch Homeland. It’s unfortunate to know that despite having huge success with this show, the channel Showtime has canceled it after such a long time.
Now, you may have wondering why was it canceled or if there is any chance for its revival and for Homeland season 9? Here’s what we know for now.
Homeland Season 9 Release Date: Cancelled or Renewed?
The first episode of season 8 of Homeland aired on February 9, 2020. It ended on April 26, 2020 after 12 episodes. All of them are available to be watched online on Showtime. Regarding the next installment, On August 2, 2019, Showtime said that the eighth installment would be the last for the political thriller.
Just to be clear, it was not a decision made at the last moment. In an interview, co-developer Gansa said that Homeland was a story about a protege and a mentor. The story of Saul-Carrie was the one constant throughout the eight seasons. According to Gansa, they have bring that story to a close. They hope that the series has been given the right justice.
Gansa added that the Homeland series has been the most joyful and rewarding experience of his career. Everyone haven’t been so lucky as him. He got to partner with Claire Danes, and got the support from Fox and Showtime. Further, he added that, he got to work in the company of some gifted writers, actors, and filmmakers in the industry.
He added that he is said that the show is coming to an end, but it is time. Maury Sterling who portrays Max in the show posted a Goodbye note on Instagram. Mandy Patinkin who plays the lead Saul Berenson also posted an emotional video on Instagram with the caption ‘Homeland Memories’.
Obviously, one can’t bid farewell to his/her favorite show at any time. It’s a disheartening thing. But, we can be satisfied with the fact that the creators successfully managed to give it a conclusive ending with wrapping up all the character arcs. It wasn’t a forced one.
So, it is concluded that Homeland is officially canceled and season 9 won’t be released. The returning of the show remains up in the air, but hope is never lost.
