Lucifer Season 5: Is the next installment of Lucifer, the morning star is going to come on Netflix? Has it been renewed or canceled? Everyone is asking if it’s happening for real or not. Well, we can confirm that yes, it is indeed happening. Tom Kapinos’ TV adaptation of the DC Comics series will return. (check: Billions Season 5 Episode 1 .)
However, it was a mixed kind of news as we got to know that it is going to be the final season of the Lucifer series. The showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich thanked Netflix for resurrecting the show and letting them finish the story on their terms. Moreover, they also thanked the fans for their support.
Modrovish shared a letter on Twitter to confirm that it’s indeed the last installment. But, there have been reports stating that there could be a Lucifer season 6 on the cards. It’s because the lead star Tom Ellis finalized a deal to reprise his role as Lucifer. Ellis said that this show is much popular than what it seemed on FOX.
Moreover, the showrunners duo also have made deals to put more seasons if Netflix asks for the same. FOX canceled the series with the third installment in May 2019, but the streaming giant came to save the day following the humongous push from the fanbase. So, we are here with everything that you would need to know.
Lucifer season 5 release date: When will it premiere?
UPDATE 13th July 2020: The official premiere date for Lucifer’s fifth season is August 21, 2020.
Most of the shows follow a similar set of release schedules, but we can’t predict for Lucifer as it has been a different kettle of fish. The first two seasons premiered in 2016, the first one at the beginning of the year and the second one in September. The third installment aired in October 2017.
Then, the fourth in the series dropped in May 2019. When it comes to the Lucifer season 5, we would like to place our bets on a late 2020 release or maybe early 2021. The filming began in September 2019. We don’t have specifics yet. In February 2020, a report came from the Lucifer writers’ room that they have finished writing all episodes.
It’s unfortunate news for the fans that production has been delayed due to coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Like many other shows, it’s not yet clear when the filming will resume. That’s why we are predicting it to be released late 2020 or 2021 at the earliest.
Whatever happens, but we know for sure that the upcoming season 5 of Lucifer is going to be split into two parts. There will be a total of 16 episodes. The first eight episodes will release. After following a brief break, the rest of the eight episodes will air.
Lucifer season 5 cast: Who’s coming back?
The show can’t stand without its devilishly handsome lead actor Tom Ellis as Lucifer MorningStar. He is exceptionally cheerful and happy that the show is making its comeback. Tom has also said that he will be sad at the point where the show ends.
Lauren German will reprise her role as Detective Chloe Decker with Kevin Alejandro as Detective Dan Espinoza, DB Woodside as Amenadiel, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen and Scarlett Estevez as Trixie Espinoza. Rachael Harris will return as Dr Linda Martin and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez.
The Prison Break fame, Inbar Lavi will come back as Eve. She debuted in season 4. In the forthcoming installment, Lucifer is going to spend some time with his heavenly father, the God which will be played by Dennis Haysbert. Tricia Helfer has been confirmed to return, but not sure what character she will play.
There will be some new additions as follows:
- Matthew Bohrer as Donovan Glover.
- Brianne Davis as Detective Dancer.
- Erin Cummings as Mandy.
- Chaley Rose as Destiny Page.
Lucifer season 5: Can I watch it on Netflix?
Oh yeah! Of course! It will be available on Netflix as the Lucifer series has been saved by none other than Netflix. That is exactly where all the episodes will be made available to be streamed online. The fans will have a great time watching on the platform when it arrives. If season 6 gets the green light, it will be available there too.
Lucifer season 5 plot: What will happen next?
As per Henderson, the upcoming installment is going to be awesome. They have put up efforts and time digging into what would work the best following the story. The first scene of the Lucifer s5 is his best as told by him. Modrovich said that they like to drive the story in a completely different direction to which everyone thinks so that nobody gets bored.
Henderson said that it makes everyone think ‘Oh God, that’s amazing!’ Such things help define their show. At the end of season 4, we saw Lucifer returning to hell to take back his position as the king. It’s because he knew that even after defeating the demons, they would eventually rise to cause havoc on Earth.
However, it doesn’t mean that Lucifer has lost all of the good things that he picked up on Earth. Hence, he still has the devil’s face and got the angel wings. He has to face the responsibilities of his at some point in time. Nobody can run from theirs. He realized that he is a better man, but if that’s the case, he should take on the responsibility in front of him.
Going by the first titles of the first five episodes of Lucifer season 5, the responsibility will hit hard Lucifer. The premiere is titled ‘Really Sad Devil Guy’. However, there has been no more information about it yet. So, the fans are speculating who that guy would be. Still, the apparent answer looks like ‘Lucifer’ himself.
It is also plausible that it could be another demon who would be feeling a bit down in the afterlife. There have been some big threads left by the end of the current season. As per Brandt, a prominent and epic fight scene will pop up soon. She said that it would be the Mazikeen fight scene that she is prepping physically for.
There will be one episode that would make a big impression. It’s an entirely black and white musical one set in an alternate universe from the 1940s. 80s pop star Debbie Gibson will be featured as Shelly Bitnar, a controlling mother. The latter won’t let her teenage son JJ have any say in his own future decisions.
Lauren German said that in the musical episode in Lucifer season 5, none of them have played their characters which are going to be funny. Everyone will be seen with a different take than usual, including – the language, the speaking, the look, the costumes, etc. It is fun seeing the cast doing utterly different than regular.
Tom Ellis said that in the end, his stories give just one message – ‘hope’, so that’s why they are pushing towards the same. He added that this episode takes a trip down memory lane and answers some questions that fans have been asking actually. Our lovely regular characters will be seen in a different light.
As per Mazikeen actress Lesly, they are going in a period where everything is different – language, clothes, points of view, etc. It will be challenging for the audience as they know the characters from season one only. But, in episode 4, we will see the genesis of Maze and why she is the way she is.
