The fans of The King: Eternal Monarch are looking forward to season 2 after the completion of the first installment on June 12, 2020. In the worldwide market, this is a new entry in the category of k-drama.
But there is nothing to worry for the creators as k-drama has already got soft corners in the worldwide audiences’ hearts. This romantic fantasy tv series has already garnered positive words of mouth from the viewers with a rating of 8.4/10 on IMDb.
Produced by Hwa&Dam Pictures and Studio Dragon, the series was premiered both on SBS TV and Netflix. Now, the first half of 2020 has already gone, is there any possibility during the COVID-19 pandemic for this series to renew?

Right now, there is nothing out from the official sources or the creators about the renewal of the cancellation of the series. Netflix has no right to say anything about the production as they only got the worldwide license to broadcast.
The producers or the production studios of the show will tell about the renewal or production status of the upcoming outing. And as of now, Netflix hasn’t revealed the viewership data of the show but as per the sources, in the USA, the rough estimate of highest stands at 38.3 million while the lowest tunning at 17.2 million.
This viewership data is far greater than that of Korean audiences. So, seeing this, we may say that there is a strong possibility that the creators will renew the series as soon as possible. Because the viewership is the first priority that the majority of producers considers.
But season 1 ended with Yi Gon and Jung Tae Eul holding their hands and then the video transition showed an elderly couple which indicated that they lived happily in their lives. With this type of ending, there is no cliffhanger and suspense for the viewers to wait.
If in case, the producers renew then chances are we may see a whole new aspect of the story or even a different story with more drama.

Netflix subscribers have become eager since the ending of season 1, they have started a petition on change.org for the renewal. At the time of writing this article, it has reached 780 signed petitions and it has a goal of 1000.
