Justice League 2 Release Date, Sequel Cast, Trailer, Film Plot, Movie Spoilers

As a movie & comic buff, we all knew that Justice League couldn’t create the magic, it created once with its anime series. And after that, a Twitter trend was also started by some DC fans with #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, which was the Justice League‘s original version, not the one we saw on screens.

After seeing the box office numbers of Justice League, the studio oriented its focus on solo movies like Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Shazam, etc. They have done reasonably well with the surprise blockbuster Aquaman.

The studio’s original plan was to give a competition to the Avenger franchise, but now they have realized what might have worked for MCU may not work for them.

Justice League Quick Recap

In Justice League’s ending scene, we saw the team defeating Steppenwolf with the help of Superman. Lex Luthor was sent to Arkham Asylum, but the post-credits showed Lex Luthor escaping from Asylum & shaking hands with the assassin Deathstroke.

Justice League 2 Cast

With the news of Robert Pattinson donning the black cape as new Batman, the suspense also started to loom over Henry Cavil, whether he will remain the Man of Steel or not?

As Wonder Woman & Aquaman get sequels, we’re almost sure that Gal Godot & Jason Momoa will reprise their titular role. But, the same couldn’t be guessed about Erza Miller & Ray Fisher playing the Flash and Cyborg in future productions.

Justice League 2 Release Date

It was announced in 2014 that JL would be released soon to follow up Man of Steel & Batman vs Superman. The producers were so overtly confident. They announced that the part 2 of the franchise would come in 2019, this was Snyder’s original two-part plan.

This plan got almost shelved after the failure of the JusticeLeague, followed by a personal tragedy that occurred in Snyder’s life.

Will Justice League 2 ever happen?

With Robert Pattinson coming as the new Batman, there couldn’t be a direct sequel.
If JL2 will ever happen, the DC would have to start all from scratch with a new Batman & who knows maybe a new Superman.

Why is #ReleaseTheSynderCut trending on Twitter?

The original Zack Snyder movie was different from the released one. The original had planned to introduced Darkseid (Thanos of DC universe) after the defeat of his minion Steppenwolf, obliterating our heroes after that, leaving them with only one option of using the time travel machine to return.

There were also reports that we could see the Knightmare vision of Bruce Wayne from Batman vs Superman, turning to be a real vision of the future & not the possible vision of the future.

And also, Lex Luthor is teaming up with supervillains to make up a new team named “Injustice League”.

It was an ambitious plan that, if taken off, could have made fortunes for the studio.

Justice League 2: The original plan/plot

At first, JL was announced to follow Man of Steel – Superman, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman. It was thought to be made as DC Universe’s Avengers just like Marvel did with its record-breaking franchise.

Per the earlier plans, Justice League part 2 was to release on June 14, 2019, as a part of Synder’s original plan. But it couldn’t happen. We could still predict with the hints that movies like Batman vs Superman and JusticeLeague gave us.

Darkseid is for DC as Thanos is to Marvel. Darkseid was to appear after his minion Steppenwolf was defeated. Following it, he was supposed to kill Lois Lane too.

Initially, it was to happen in a very similar fashion to the Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame arc. Firstly, our heroes would have been featured losing against Darkseid, and then they would have been brought back via time-travel.

Following it, Darkseid would have proceeded to level the Earth. It would have made Bruce Wayne’s Knightmare vision in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice a real future instead of just a possible future.

Then, in Justice League part 3 film, the heroes would be brought back and have taken the final stand against Darkseid and Apokolips.

But, this ambitious plan of Synder couldn’t become a reality. Because the JL ended on a different note than initially planned.

It ended with a plot of a new supervillain team-up called Injustice League as Lex Luthor escaped the prison and was featured partnering with the assassin Deathstroke. Eisenberg seems interested in the second part, but he doesn’t know if it will happen.

Synder made himself clear on the first part of the JL during Batman v Superman live stream in March 2020.

“I think they should make a sequel to this movie someday, that would be amazing,” he joked at the end of the credits. “That would be something else. Yeah, I wanna know what happens to these guys, I mean, couldn’t they eventually, I don’t know, form some…”

Justice League 2: DC’s new approach

As mentioned earlier, DC changed its approach to the JL franchise. The release of the first film made it a team-up movie.

It followed the release of Aquaman which surprisingly became the highest-grossing DC movie ever released. It did so well with barely acknowledging the presence of other crucial buddies of the superhero.

Shazam and Birds of Prey were made in the same fashion. But, Joker was set up in a different timeline.

DC is not going to follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s complicated, joined-up storytelling. Instead, it is trying out a new model with a far more fragmented landscape of mostly standalone movies.

DC is busy with lots of films. The list of upcoming movies includes sequels to Wonder Woman, Shazam, and Aquaman over the next few years. It seems that Justice League sequel won’t be coming until a few years in the future.

Justice League 2: Reboot time?

The most plausible option for JL2 seems to be a reboot just like the approach of James Gunn to The Suicide Squad.

We know that Ben Affleck won’t reprise Batman. It remains to be seen if we would see Henry Cavill as Superman in the future or not. As these two characters seem unlikely to return, it means a direct sequel won’t be possible.

There would be new Batman and Superman, and Justice League 2 would go without them. If JL2 is to happen soon, DC would be looking for the original cast while retaining Gal Gadot, Momoa, and the rest.

So, it’s clear a new JusticeLeague film isn’t going to happen anytime soon.
