Nicholas Edward Cave AKA Nick Cave was born on 22nd September in Australia. He is majorly known for creating wearable mixed-media constructions known as Soundsuits. He is majorly known as the lead singer of the rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
Nick wasn’t only into singing and composing but also writing, screenwriting and acting. He released multiple books like King Ink, King Ink II and The Flesh Made Word. He later went on to write screenplays for The Proposition and Lawless.
Nick Cave’s Early Life and Career
Nick Cave was born in a small country town called Warracknabeal in Victoria, Australia. It was through his father that Nick was introduced to literary classics. His elder brother gave him exposure to progressive rock bands such as King Crimson, Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull which he started to love.
At the early age of 9, he joined a choir of Wangaratta’s Holy Trinity Cathedral. At the age of 19 Cave lost his father to a car collision and he got to hear this from his mother while she bailed him out of jail where he was held for burglary. Nick was majorly inspired by The Saints when he saw them at a live concert. In 1973 he found a few people from Caulfield Grammar and they founded a band. It was after he graduated that the group found its name The Boys Next Door. They began playing their own songs and later in 1978 songwriter Rowland S. Howard joined their band. They gained success during the ’70s and soon in 1980, they changed their name to Birthday Party. However, soon in 1983 the band broke up after creating a huge fan following across Europe and Australia.
In 1984, Nick founded another group named Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Together they have released 17 studio albums. However, in 2006, Nick Cave made another group called Grinderman where he is on vocals, guitar, organ & piano. Along with Warren Ellise, Martyn P. Casey and Jim Sclavunos. He formed this group as an escape from The Bad Seeds.
His songs were featured in films including Dogs in Space, Wings of Desire, Until the End of the World, Batman Forever, The X-Files, Dumb & Dumber, Scream and Hellboy. Not only in films but his songs have also been featured in TV programs including Peaky Blinders where the Red Right Hand is the theme song for it.

Nick dated Anita Lane briefly during the late ’70s to mid-’80s. He then married his first wife Viviane Carneiro who was a Brazilian journalist. They had a son together and named him Luke. However, soon after 6 years of marriage Nick and Viviane parted ways. Nick had his second son with Beau Lazenby named Jethro. He then went on to date PJ Harvey during mid-1990s.
Soon in 1997, Nick met Susie whom he ended up marrying in 1999. They had twin sons named Arthur and Earl. Unfortunately at the age of 15, Arthur fell from a cliff at Ovingdean and died due to his injuries in 2015. It was discovered that Arthur had taken LSD, hence, the death was ruled an accident.
Recently, Nick announced that his son Jethro had died at the age of 31. However, Jethro Lazenby Cave’s cause of death hasn’t yet been confirmed. It is saddening that Nick has faced the loss of his two sons Arthur and Jethro.
